Fort-de-France and Les Trois-Îlets
Fort-de-France is the capital of Martinique. It sits on one side of a big bay. On the other side of the bay, there is a collection of small townships, sitting on a series of small bays. One of these townships is named “Les Trois-Îlets”. But the name Les Trois-Îlets is also used to refer to all four … or is it five or six … of these little towns. We stayed just a little way down the coast road for a couple of nights.
Ferries from the main dock in Fort-de-France shuttle across the bay throughout the day, stopping at three or four of these villages. On the spur of the moment, we jumped on one of these ferries and paid our first visit to Fort-de-France.
