Boca de Tomatlan is a tiny little place. This photo shows the entire beachfront.
For this part of our trip, we will be renting a car and driving South from Puerto Vallarta. The road hugs the shoreline of Banderas Bay all the way down to Boca de Tomatlan, at which point the road turns inland across the mountains.
There are other small villages farther South on Banderas Bay, but they can be reached only by water taxi. Most of these taxis are based in Boca de Tomatlan.
The original caption on this next photo reads “The taxi loading up at the Boca pier. It can sometimes get crowded. The good news is that the more people there are, the smoother the ride.”
Boca de Tomatlan is also home to the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens. We have visited botanical gardens throughout the Caribbean and are looking forward to this one, on the Pacific Coast, which includes an orchid and vanilla conservatory.
The gardens even provide a gorgeous-looking restaurant.

The Traveling Gardener has a nice article describing the creation of the Botanical Gardens.
