A Scramble to Conchas Chinas

Puerto Vallarta ~ January 26

This statue is near the South end of Playa los Muertos.

Here is a view of Los Muertos beach, looking North towards the pier and the center of Puerto Vallarta. This photo shows the entire waterfront of the Romantic Zone. The nearest big building, with the “palapas” and the blue beach umbrellas, is the Blue Chairs resort. Our apartment was just behind this resort.

The beach ends here at a rocky outcropping, just to the right of this photo.

One morning, we decided to find out whether it is possible to walk South from here. The answer is yes, but it is a bit of a scramble. However, you are rewarded by some nice views of Banderas Bay (which looks more impressive in real life than in this photo).

We ended up in the Conchas Chinas section of Puerto Vallarta. By then (and not entirely by chance) it was time for lunch, so we stopped at El Set, which claims … like many restaurants in this part of town … to have been around since John Huston filmed Night of the Iguana a few kilometers South of here.

The restaurant is on an open covered terrace, with great views of Banderas Bay. After lunch, we caught a taxi back to town … 😊
